Of over 100 ex couples that I have met who moved to eugene in cluding my sons mother very few have survived the transition.

When I moved there I had the choice of Eugene or Boston, I chose Eugene because I had Oregon state residence but found that the cost of living in eugene was not that much lower than it was in beentown. The wage base, however, was about a third of what it would have been.

For the first 2 years I welded as I could make more money than working with computers and the money still sucked.

When I found decent paying work in the field it was in Albany or Corvallis. Of the 10 years I was in Eugene my daily commute was over 2 hours for 7 of them.

A year after my divorce I moved into a 50+ unit appartment complex where most of my neighbors kicked close to half of their incomes to rent. It was owned by a "Babtist Minister" he owned 3 other similar units.

Eugene is the apitomy of Bill Clinton liberalism, fuck who you want, smoke what you want but dont even think about changing the economic order of things. Like the Ratheon employees I used to work with who would follow the Dead to Europe, or the trustefarians who would pick up their western union checks from their rich east coast partents.

A group of seniors the second year I went to the UofO? sat on Johnson Hall untill Fromeyer agreed to sign an agreement that UofO? sanctioned gear would require fair labor practices. This took most of a year and many arrests. A little over a year later he went back on his knees for more nike money and recinded the agreement.

Eugene has off and on had an awesome music scene.

Some of which I was able to support and participate in with web space, as a radio DJ, photographer and finally as a start of a band.
